OUR PREDICT-OBSERVE-EXPLAIN (POE) VISUAL TEACHING PEDAGOGY
PREDICT
Even before diving into concepts, we encourage students to tap on their existing knowledge to make predictions. E.g. "What do you think will happen when I put the balloon near the fire?"; "What will you see when I put a glass of water in front of the card?"
OBSERVE
We perform the demonstration and allow students to observe what happens. It's okay even if they don't have the right answers. A lot of learning is enhanced by addressing alternative conceptions, after all.
EXPLAIN
Here's where we link up the demonstrated phenomenon to the relevant concepts for meaningful and deep learning.

Indeed, the premise behind POE is pretty simple.
Then why isn't this teaching method better utilized in schools?
Wouldn't this be an amazing teaching method, especially for students who are kinaesthetic or visual learners?
Unfortunately, this teaching method becomes diluted and less engaging the larger your audience is. Imagine going one-by-one in a class of thirty students and encouraging them to voice their unique observations.

The class size of NO MORE than 8 students is absolutely essential to our Predict-Observe-Explain (POE) visual learning method. In our class, every student will get a chance to speak. The small class size also means we can easily customise the learning speed for each individual student.
